REAPER MIDI *OUTPUTS* (Remember, these are the ports which REAPER sends MIDI TO the Perf.

REAPER MIDI *INPUTS* (Remember, these are the ports which REAPER receives MIDI FROM the Perf. (Note: LoopBe30 MIDI ports show up as "Internal MIDI 01" thru "Internal MIDI 30".)

(It won't shut up about this unless you turn it off.)ĥ.) IMPORTANT: Reboot Windows so the 30 virtual ports can be generated.Ħ.) Open LoopBe30 to confirm all 30 MIDI ports are enabled and that loopback detection is OFF.ġ.) Open REAPER's Preferences > Audio > MIDI DevicesĢ.) Set MIDI *INPUTS* as follows for LoopBe30. All checkboxes should be checked.Ĥ.) Disable loopback detection. (It's in the Windows system tray on the bottom-right.)ģ.) Enable all 30 ports. The music comes alive and feels like an authentic performance!Ģ.) Open LoopBe30. Tool, the sampler will receive it and trigger the correct keyswitches and notes. These patches uses special keyswitches, which are triggered automatically by the Perf.

It is needed to take full advantage of the special VSL "performance" patches. Tool's *filtered* MIDI back to the REAPER track containing the sampler. You use LoopBe30 to connect REAPER's MIDI to the VSL Perf. This tool is available to registered users of VSL Giga/Kontakt/HALion/EXS24 libraries. This a *stand-alone* application, meaning it runs OUTside of the sequencer/REAPER. Supports up tp 30 virtual MIDI ports!! I *strongly* recommend purchasing this!! It's only about $20USD or so.)ģ.) Vienna Symphonic Library Performance Tool.exe Personal preference.Ģ.) LoopBe30 for sending MIDI out of REAPER, to the VSL Perf. I prefer to keep as much of the audio and MIDI inside of the sequencer/VST host as possible, so I use the sampler INSIDE of REAPER. Signalling is different if you're sending MIDI to a stand-alone instance of your sampler of choice. They're al multi-timbral (can send out multiple, simultaneous audio streams) You can use Kontakt/HALion/LinuxSampler, etc too. Here is my VSL orchestral template workflow:ġ.) Giga Virtual Instrument VSTi inside of REAPER.

I do not concern myself with any of this now.

Very time-consuming but the results mean everything is routed correctly. It took 2 weeks to route it all, but I'm so glad now that it's done. I actually just finished my template last night. I've got just over 500 REAPER tracks of MIDI for my VSL orchestral template. Tool OUTPORT (sends *filtered* MIDI back TO REAPER using 1 Port/ 1 Channel via LoopBe30)ħ.) REAPER Track holding VSTi sampler (GVI/Kontakt/LinuxSampler, etc.) (receives *filtered* MIDI data from Perf. Tool INPORT (receives MIDI from REAPER using 1 Port/1 Channel via LoopBe30)ĥ.) Perf. Tool.ġ.) Hardware Input (if applicable - keyboard, e-drums, etc.)ģ.) REAPER Track Routing Window (send MIDI out using 1 Port/1 Channel via LoopBe30)Ĥ.) Perf. This is the basic idea when using the Perf. I know it sounds complicated at first, but let me break it all down for you. ROUTING & USING THE VSL PERFORMANCE TOOL WALK-THROUGH: However, these can be adjusted in Kontakt later & re-saved. Some do & some don't.Ģ.) Release control patches (+RC) do not have the same release envelope characteristics of Giga's release envelopes. I recommend using Extreme Sample Converter, with a few exceptions.ġ.) It doesn't convert the keyswitched "standard_all" patches correctly for all libraries.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? Is this a known issue when converting keyswitched Giga patches to Kontakt? What conversion software will convert these particular patches properly to Kontakt format (again, Giga v2.5 to Kontakt)? But it seems to always be the top (forte) layer missing. It happens for different playing techniques for different instruments. This issue occurs across all "_standard_all_p-f" patches, but not necessarily tremolo only. If I trigger the velocity range where these forte samples should reside, I hear absolutely nothing. These are special patches that use keyswitches to switch from sustains, staccatos, tremolos, etc.įor example, "VI-14_standard_all_p-f" does not play the top (forte) velocity layer for the tremolo keyswitch. I tried again today with Kontakt v4 and it gives the same results.Įverything converted and works fine except the keyswitched "_standard_all_p-f" patches. I converted all my Giga libraries to Kontakt format a few years ago using the built-in import for Kontakt. This is a problem that I've had for quite some time.
